Insulation Services
Do I need insulation?
The Department of Energy recommends R-38 to R-
49 (equivalent to about 15 - 25 inches of fiber glass). Do I Need Insulation? High
heating bills, drafty rooms and ice dams could be a sign that your home needs insulation.
Give us a call or email and we will come to your home to assess your insulation
needs. We will complete a thorough inspection of your walls and attic insulation
and make recommendations for needed improvements. Common Signs of Inadequate Insulation:
Do you have ice dams, icicles, roof "hot spots", high heating bills, high cooling
bills or drafty walls? Does your furnace seems to run too much in the winter, and
your air conditioning runs constantly all summer long? IF you answered YES to any
of the above questions there is good chance your insulation levels are inadequate.
Re-insulating your home with Owens-Corning
fiberglass insulation is one of the fastest and most cost-efficient ways to reduce
energy waste and maximize your energy dollars. The Ins and Outs of Insulation; Did
you know that the average family spends close to $1,500 a year on their home's utility
bills? Unfortunately, a large portion of that energy is wasted through poor insulation.
You probably should insulate if you have an older home and haven't added insulation.
In a recent survey, between 15 - 20% of homes built before 1980 were well insulated.
These homes are uncommonly cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Adding insulation
creates a more uniform temperature and increases comfort. You should insulate when
you build a new house or addition, install new siding or roofing,
pay excessive energy bills and/or are concerned about the effect of energy use on
the environment.
Benefits of Rafter Vent Baffles
Attic rafter vent baffles are a necessity for the overall health
of your roof. Soffit vents are small vented grates you probably have seen under
the eaves of houses. They allow the fresh air to travel up under the roof to the
ridge vent systems, keeping the roofing materials from
being damaged. A rafter vent baffle prevents insulation and other debris from clogging
the airway, preventing proper attic ventilation.
What Causes Ice Dams?
How do they form?
Snow on the heated part of the roof melts and water flows down until it meets the
part of the roof that is below 32 degrees, at which point the water freezes into
an ice dam.
How do ice dams lead to water damage?
Water accumulates behind the ice dam, and the sitting water makes its way under
the roof covering and flows into the attic. From there it can seep through insulation,
ceilings, walls and other areas causing damage.
How do you prevent an ice dam?
Keeping the temperature of the attic under control can prevent ice dams. Proper
insulation and ventilation are major components of maintaining
perfect conditions in the attic as well as the roof deck.
