Ridge Vent Benefits
Proper attic ventilation is critical in any home. Poor air flow through attic spaces
results in excessive heat and moisture build-up. Over time, trapped heat and moisture
can literally destroy a roof from within. Roof decks can rot from the inside out
and shingles will fall apart or curl due to heat build-up. Lack of proper ventilation
can void your shingle warranty. It can also cause your air-conditioner to work harder
to cool your house in the summer. It’s important to make sure that there is plenty
of air intake through the soffit vents. The more soffit venting,
and ridge venting the better. We make sure to use rafter venting, which allows plenty
of incoming air to pass through to the ridge vent. This allows heat to escape and
prevent crucial roof damage. It’s also important to mention that the lack of proper
ventilation can bring moisture problems into the attic of your house that can inadvertently
cause problems with the integrity of your house’s structure: the trusses, rafters
and support beams will get wet and start to rot. You should have ridge venting installed,
that way the hot air and moisture has no choice but to leave your attic! Ridge
venting is absolutely the most efficient ventilation solution.
Adding a
Ridge Vent System is absolutely the most efficient ventilation solution.
The standard amount of roofing cannot exceed two layers. If your
roof has two layers and needs to be replaced, it would have to be completely torn
off. If your roof only has one layer, it can be covered by re-roofing with new
shingles. When installing your new roof, we begin by laying down a
protective layer of ice and water shield at the bottom of the roof line as well
as all valleys. The ice and water shield must extend 6 feet higher than your interior
wall. Be sure to compensate for the length of your overhang. On the remaining deck,
we install Deck-Armor, overlapping 3" and nailing the top and bottom every 16 inches.
We then install the drip edge on all of the eve and rake edges, overlapping 3".
Before installing the first row of shingles, we apply a starter strip to prevent
shingles from blowing off. We then continue to run the shingles upward toward the
peak. Once the deck of the roof has been shingled, we then install the ridge vent
system. The final step of the roofing process is the installation of hip ridge shingles,
covering the ridge vent. When your new roof is completed we conduct a thorough walk
through, removing any roofing debris from the property.
Attic rafter vent baffles are a necessity for the overall health
of your roof. Soffit vents are small vented grates you probably have seen under
the eaves of houses. They allow the fresh air to travel up under the roof to the
ridge vents, keeping the roofing materials from being damaged. A rafter vent baffle
prevents insulation and other debris from clogging the airway, preventing proper
attic ventilation.
Deck-Armor™ Premium Breathable Roof Deck Protection
Protect Your home With Premium "Breathable" Roof Deck Protection. Premium Roof Deck
Protection should protect your home and “breathe” at the same time (amazingly, most
so-called premium products do NOT breathe!) It provides a critical extra layer of
protection between your shingles and your roof deck — to help prevent wind-driven
rain (or water from other sources) from infiltrating under your shingles and causing
damage to your roof structure or to the inside of your home. In addition, a premium
quality roof deck protection will:
“Breathe”...
To allow moisture from inside your attic to escape (to help prevent structural decay,
mold, and mildew)
Provide longer-lasting leak protection...
Than conventional “felts” (which can rot or become brittle before your shingles
reach their useful life)
Lay flatter...
So your shingles will lay flat and uniform
