Ice & Snow Removal

What causes ice dams

An Ice Dam is a thick ridge of ice that can form at the edge of your roof and in the gutter. As snow above the dam melts, water backs up underneath the shingles and leaks down through the wall and ceiling, causing major damage. Keeping the temperature of the attic under control can prevent ice dams. Proper insulation and ventilation are major components of maintaining perfect conditions in the attic as well as the roof deck.

How do ice dams lead to water damage?
Water accumulates behind the Ice Dam, and the sitting water makes its way under the roof covering and flows into the attic. From there it can seep through insulation, ceilings, walls and other areas causing damage.
